QUM Grant-funded activity: Psychotropic medicines and young people

NPS MedicineWise is funded by the Australian Government Department of Health through the Quality Use of Diagnostics, Therapeutics and Pathology Program to improve the way medicines and medical tests are prescribed and used (QUM grant).

The Psychotropic medicines and young people program is a national educational program to improve the quality use of psychotropic medicines and non-medicine options for people aged 16–24 years who present in primary care with psychological distress, depression and/or anxiety disorders. The program aims to increase the health literacy of people aged 16–24 years related to psychotropic medicines and non-medicine management options for mental health and increase health professional knowledge, confidence and practice in the use of psychotropic medicines and non-medicine management options for mental health. The program also aims to increase health professional use of non-medicine management options first-line for depression and anxiety disorders in people aged 16–24 years and reduce the prescribing of antidepressants first-line for people aged 16–24 years with mild-to-moderate depression and/or anxiety disorders.
