Prescribers are reminded that benzhexol hydrochloride, an anticholinergic used in the treatment of Parkinson's disease and drug-induced extrapyramidal disorders, is a potential drug of abuse. Overdoses can, and have proved fatal. Ensure a genuine need for benzhexol hydrochloride and, if in doubt, consider reducing the maximal quantity supplied to reduce the possibility of misuse.
